Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026
This policy explains what Waevo collects, why, and the choices you have. Waevo is an 18+ service — it is not intended for anyone under 18.
1. Who we are
Waevo ("Waevo", "we", "us") operates the Waevo mobile application and this website. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@waevo.app. Waevo is the data controller of your information.
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect a date of birth (to confirm you are 18+), your gender, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, a unique account identifier and (where provided) your email address and name. We generate a username for you automatically.
Profile information
Anything you choose to add: profile photo(s), bio, interests, spoken language, and approximate country/region. Photos are screened for explicit content on your device before they upload.
Content you create
Direct messages you send are stored so we can deliver them and show your history. See section 4 for how video calls are handled.
Safety & usage data
Reports and blocks you make or receive, ratings, a trust/reputation signal, moderation events (for example, a device-side nudity detection), and basic activity such as when you were last online.
Device & technical data
A push-notification token (if you enable notifications), device/OS information needed to run the app, and, in future, a device-integrity check to fight fraud and fake accounts.
Subscriptions & purchases
If you subscribe, Apple or Google process the payment. We receive your subscription status (active tier, renewal/expiry) — not your card details.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the core service — matching you with others, delivering messages, and running calls.
- To keep you and the community safe (age assurance, moderation, blocking repeat offenders).
- To operate subscriptions and, for free users, show ads.
- To send you notifications you've opted into.
- To understand and improve the app (including, if you cancel, the reason you tell us).
- To comply with law and enforce our Terms.
4. Video calls & messages
Video and audio during a call are peer-to-peer. The live stream flows directly between the two people on the call and is not recorded or stored on our servers. We only relay the small signalling messages needed to connect you.
Direct messages (text) are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and shown in your history. You can delete your account to remove them.
5. Safety & moderation
Waevo screens for nudity on your device in real time. This analysis happens locally — your camera stream is not sent anywhere to perform it. If explicit content is detected, it is covered and, on repeated violations, the account can be restricted or banned. We keep moderation metadata (that an event happened, not images) to enforce our rules and improve safety. Reports and blocks are used to protect other users.
6. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with service providers that help us run Waevo:
- Apple & Google — sign-in and, if you subscribe, payment processing and subscription status.
- RevenueCat — to manage and verify subscription entitlements.
- Google AdMob — to show ads to free users (see section 7).
- Expo — to deliver push notifications you've enabled.
- Our hosting provider — to run our servers and store data such as messages and profiles.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to prevent harm, or to protect the safety of our users.
7. Advertising
Free accounts see ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device and advertising identifiers to show and measure ads under Google's own policies. You can subscribe to Max to remove ads, and you can limit ad tracking in your device settings.
8. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, messages, friends and related data. Some limited records (for example, safety or legal logs) may be retained where the law requires.
9. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit most of your data in the app, control notifications in settings, and delete your account at any time. To exercise other rights, email privacy@waevo.app.
10. Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your data as described in section 8. If you can't access the app, email us from your account address and we'll help.
11. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and video/audio never touches our servers. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
12. International transfers
Waevo is a global service, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
13. Age & children
Waevo is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. We check age at sign-up and enforce that minors are never matched with adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
